Jonathan Ward, Engineering Manager at the South African National Space Agency (SANSA)

Jonathan holds a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cape Town. His specialised areas of study are in Radar, Remote Sensing, High-frequency Electromagnetics and Space Applications.

Jonathan has over 13 years of experience in Science Support Engineering and has trained and led multi-disciplinary teams across Africa as well as Antarctica involved in deploying, maintaining and operating geophysical instrumentation networks and managing large and diverse data sets for users nationally and abroad.

A veteran of the South African National Antarctic Programme (SANAP), Jonathan has overwintered at the SANAE IV base in 2011/2012 and visited the continent for 3 relief voyages between 2013 and 2015 and has managed SANSA’s participation in the SANAP for over 10 years.
