EXPERT DATABASE
We are establishing a database of South African marine and polar researchers to provide a platform where experts in the various specialisations can be found by, for example, potential collaborators, students looking for supervisors, organisers of speaking events, media reps, etc.

Juan-Jacques Forgus
Biodiversity Instrument Technician
My research focuses on the operation and development of tools and instruments used to map South Africa's offshore benthic environment and invertebrate biodiversity. While I’m experienced in using traditional sampling methods such as trawling, dredging, grabs, etc. my primary interests and core duties are focused on operating our existing camera systems as well as developing new systems to be used for non-invasive, visual surveys of the benthic environment.

Jethan d'Hotman
Senior Technician
Jethan's research focus includes Physical Oceanography of the Agulhas Current and its impacts on coastal dynamics. With a strong foundation in fieldwork and data management, Jethan is passionate about advancing sustainable ocean science through innovation and collaboration.

Tlhonolofatso Steve Tebele
Senior Technician
Research focuses on analyzing Sea Surface Temperature (SST) trends along the South African coast. The work examines coastal SST variations, contributing to a better understanding of how climate change impacts marine ecosystems in this region. SST research is vital for climate science, as it provides data on oceanic temperature shifts, which affect local marine biodiversity and broader climate patterns.
